VIRUS-busting air purification

When designing The Tank Factory studios, health and safety of our staff and clients was always a priority. As we all breathe 15 to 20 kgs of air into our bodies every day, we decided to invest in a state-of-the-art air conditioning system.

Now, as we are opening doors for the very first time, months since the COVID19 outbreak, our 3-in-1 air purifying system is a key component of the health and safety measures to reduce the risk of transmission and ensure crew, talent and production teams feel safe and protected in our studios.

What’s 3-in-1 Air Purification?

Let’s briefly dive into the nitty-gritty features of our air conditioning system. Its 3-in-1 air purification modules remove particulate pollution as small as 0.3 micron (that’s 200 times smaller than the width of human hair), neutralise air borne viruses and bacteria and remove chemical pollution (Volatile Organic Compounds – VOCs) and odours by the process of non-ozone Photo Catalytic Oxidation (PCO). This makes the air inside our building the healthiest possible.

PCO & COVID19

COVID19 is an airborne virus and utilising PCO air purifiers to kill the virus in indoor spaces can work well. Although COVID19 tests haven’t been conducted yet, PCO panels are highly effective in removing common viruses such as influenza. Consequently, PCO panels may be utilised to kill COVID19 before they enter an indoor space and consequently can deter surface contamination.

Representatives from the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) and REFCOM suggest that air conditioning systems play an important role in lowering the transmission risk of COVID19.  Switching on the air handling units to full fresh air mode could ensure contaminated air is not recirculated throughout buildings. High air change rates minimise the risk of moisture, which could contain the virus, settling on internal surfaces.

Public Health England stated that transmission of the virus is thought to occur mainly through respiratory droplets generated by coughing and sneezing, and through contact with contaminated surfaces. It recommends that heating and cooling systems are operated to ensure buildings can continue to support critical activities and maintain the health and wellbeing of occupants.

The air conditioning will help us offer you a healthy, productive and sustainable environment for your creative endeavours in our studios.  If you haven’t been in The Tank Factory yet,  just get in touch with our friendly team.
